On 15 December 1931 the Podestà Thaon di Revel decided in favour of the construction of the Via Giordano Bruno Market.A bid for tenders was called and the contract was assigned to the "Ing. De Luca e Miccone" company, since it had made the best economic offer (Lire 6,500,000) with optimum technical and aesthetic features. The Market was inaugurated on 28 October 1933.

Participation on the part of operators was initially slow. With events sweeping along their course, the Second World War arrived and dramatically altered the situation. The Market was partially destroyed by aerial bombardment. After the war, however, and with a display of extraordinary tenacity, the structure was quickly rebuilt.
The Fruit and Vegetable Market gradually lost its outlying position as the city expanded. At the same time, the distribution system was changing at a heady pace, requiring the implementation of radical renewal.

The latter came into being on 27 November 1989 with the creation of CAAT, in compliance with Law no. 41 of February 1986.
